Seminar-Workshop on Judicial Writing for the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) lawyers

Posted on October 5, 2012

On July 12-13, 2012, the PHILJA held a two-day seminar-workshop on Judicial Writing for the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) lawyers in response to a request by the HRET, through its Chair, Associate Justice Presbitero J. Velasco, Jr., for PHILJA to help organize, manage and conduct the said seminar-workshop in order to improve the decision writing skills and enhance proficiency in handling case hearings not only of the HRET lawyers but also of its hearing officers.

The topics for the seminar-workshop included Evidence; Ways of Handling Evidence – Basics of Trial Practice; Grammar, Usage and Style in Legal Writing; Drafting of Decisions and Resolutions; and Ethics in Government Service. The topic on ethics, discussed by retired Court of Appeals Justice Hilarion L. Aquino, was incorporated in the program as a PHILJA requirement to reiterate the laws governing standards of conduct expected from government employees.

Justice Disodado M. Peralta lectured on the Basics of Trial Practice and proceeded to preside over the moot court exercises to enable the participants to apply what they had learned.

Ten HRET lawyers participated in the seminar-workshop.
