2015 CAM Expansion of PMCO

In a Resolution, The Philippine Mediation Center Office, through the Mediation Education, Training, and Monitoring Division, started the first quarter of 2015 with several activities conducted, geared towards the expansion of the Court-Annexed Mediation Program in the Provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Oriental Mindoro and the establishment of PMC Units in the Cities of Laoag, Vigan, and Calapan.

As initial activity, the Orientation Conference with Stakeholders (Ilocos Norte Mediation Program) was conducted at the Fort Ilocandia Resort Hotel in Laoag City on February 4, 2015 while the Orientation Conference with Stakeholders (Ilocos Sur Mediation Program) was conducted at the One Vittoria Hotel in Vigan City on February 5, 2015.  Then, on February 26, 2015, the Orientation Conference with Stakeholders (Oriental Mindoro Mediation Program) was conducted at the El Pueblo Rhizort in Calapan City. Said activities, aimed to introduce the Court-Annexed Mediation program, were attended by the stakeholders from different key sectors whose cooperation and support are essential to the success of the programs.

Then, the Orientation and Screening of Prospective Mediators and PMC Unit Staff were conducted at the Halls of Justice in the Cities of Laoag, Vigan, and Calapan on March 17, 19, and 26, 2015, respectively. These activities aim to recruit and screen prospective Court-Annexed Mediators and PMC Unit Staff and to orient them on the structure of the Philippine Mediation Center Office and the Court-Annexed Mediation process.

The prospective Mediators from Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur, who passed the screening process, were then invited to join the Basic Mediation Course conducted on May 4 to 7, 2015 at the Java Hotel.

The Basic Mediation Course is a three-and-a-half day training intended to develop the requisite knowledge, attitude, and skills for the effective and efficient performance of the different roles of a mediator. In the afternoon of May 7, 2015, the Judges, Clerks of Court, Branch Clerks of Court, and PMCU staff of Ilocos Norte, joined the Pre-Internship Orientation and Meeting, intended to prepare them for the two-month internship program scheduled from July 20 until September 20, 2015.  During the Internship Program, the Mediation Trainees will handle actual cases for mediation under the supervision of a Mentor-Coach from the PMC Unit in San Fernando City, La Union.  The same activity was conducted for the Ilocos Sur participants at the One Vittoria Hotel on May 8, 2015.

The prospective Mediators from Oriental Mindoro, who passed the screening process, will attend the Basic Mediation Course to be conducted on June 30 to July 3, 2015.
